California Earthquake Insurance: Homeowner’s Emergency Checklist

California Earthquake Insurance: Homeowner's Emergency ChecklistWe’ve talked about the impact of earthquakes lately. Whether it is building safety or the importance of earthquake insurance, it is an issue that every Californian is familiar with. (I guess it can’t be sunny and beautiful all the time). Here is a list Homeowner’s Emergency Checklist in case of a disaster.

Create a basic emergency supply kit. Be sure it includes the following: Water, food, can-opener, battery-powered radio, flashlight, extra batteries, moist towelettes and garbage bags, local maps, first-aid kit, whistle, wrench or pliers, and dust mask.  Consider your family’s individual needs as well; any extra prescriptions, infant formula, clothing, pet food etc.

Know your evacuation routes. Have more than one option for getting out of town quickly. Make sure you have family meeting spots, Choose one by the house, one in the region, and a third that is out-of-town in case your family has to evacuate separately. In addition make sure your family has one designated out-of-town contact that you all contact if you are separated.

Compile information. Make a list of important phone numbers for each family to carry with them. Write down any important personal information, medical conditions, etc. Keep the emergency information of your kid’s schools too, so you have all the details together.

Have a family meeting. Make sure everyone is on the same page, knows the contact person, what to do and where to go in case of an emergency.

By being prepared now, you and your family will be better protected should any disaster occur. Take the preemptive step to get comprehensive coverage with Blackwell Insurance Agency.
